A Brief History of Calvary Christian School | 1962 | Husband and wife Pastors J. Wesley and Olive Smith found the non-denominational Calvary Bible Church. The church body met in The American Legion Hall of Palm Springs for the next 12 years. | | | | 1975 | The sanctuary building is completed, and Calvary Bible Christian Church has a "home of its own." This made possible the initiation of the school ministry that had been a vision burning in the hearts of our Founders for over 18 years previously. | | | | 1977 | Calvary Bible Christian School begins instruction. Initial enrollment was nineteen students. Through God's grace and provision, the school concluded the year with thirty-three students. Pastors and teachers J. Wesley and Olive Smith were supported by four full time Supervisors and Monitors. All instruction took place in the Sanctuary Building. | | | | 1979 | The Mobile Unit is added, expanding the number of students that could be accommodated at the school. | | | | 1980 | Main Educational Building is complete and ready for its first year of service. Calvary Bible Christian School proudly presents its first two students that years graduating class. | | | | 2003 | Calvary Bible Christian School changes its name to Calvary Christian School. The change was made to reflect the full spectrum of education offered at the school. First Annual "Hearts & Hands Auction and Gala" is held at the Rancho Mirage Ritz Carlton (now know as The Lodge in Rancho Mirage). The event proudly featured Tristan Rogers and Huell Howser as their Celebrity Hosts. Tristan Rogers is well known for his role as 'Robert Scorpio' on the daytime drama 'General Hospital'. Huell Howser is the host of several PBS shows. These include 'California's Gold', 'California's Green', and 'Road Trip.' | | | | 2004 | Second Annual "Hearts & Hands Auction and Gala" is held at the Renaissance Esmeralda in Indian Wells. Actor Kirk Cameron is the Celebrity Host. Kirk starred in the TV series 'Growing Pains', and continues his acting career by playing 'Buck Williams' in the movie adapted from the 'Left Behind' book series. | | | | 2005 | Third Annual "Hearts & Hands Auction and Gala" is held at the Indian Wells Country Club in Indian Wells. Actor Stephen Baldwin lends his support as Celebrity Host. He has in television and movies since 1980. Most recently Stephen as produced "Livin' It" in association with Luis Palau ministries. | | 2006 | Celebrity chairwoman Hunter Tylo from Daytime Drama "The Bold and The Beautiful" hosted the Fourth Annual "Hearts & Hands Auction and Gala" again held at the Renaissance Esmeralda in Indian Wells. Other notable guests included Tristan Rogers and local dignitaries. | | |
